Due to the extreme cold temperatures, Governor Ned Lamont activated Connecticut’s “severe cold weather protocol” for this last weekend in January (thru Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021 at noon). The homeless or those in need of emergency shelter services or warming centers to get out of the cold are urged to call 2-1-1 right away to be connected to local services in their city or town.

Samaia Hernandez from WTNH News 8 spoke with CRT about emergency services available to help people in need:

CRT is so grateful for the generosity of the owners at BouNom Bakery in Avon, Conn., who are donating 100 hand-made pumpkin pies on #Thanksgiving Day to homeless residents livings at CRT’s shelters in Hartford and East Hartford (including the East Hartford Family Shelter and Veterans Crossing).

All of the personal-sized pies will be baked and delivered on Thanksgiving Day. Watch this report by Leslie Mayes on NBC Connecticut to learn more about this wonderful act of kindness that is truly “Sweet as Pie!”

More details in this full report from NBC Connecticut.

Note: During the Coronavirus pandemic, CRT’s McKinney Shelter for Men in Hartford is officially closed, and the residents have been safely relocated to an area hotel.

As Chris Arnott notes in the Hartford Courant, the Glastonbury Newcomers’ and Neighbors’ Club is truly putting its best foot forward once again this year with their 4th annual “Socktober” efforts, collecting new pairs of socks that will be donated to the residents at CRT’s homeless shelters!

Every year, the most requested item for the homeless continues to be new, clean socks.
