“Causes like Meals on Wheels rely on corporate partners to keep our wheels turning,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO, Meals on Wheels America. “That’s why we are beyond grateful to Subaru of America and their retailers for their astonishing 15 years of partnership and nearly 4 million meals and friendly visits delivered to our aging neighbors.”

The Greater Hartford/Central Connecticut Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will help seniors 60 years of age or older, get to their necessary vaccine appointments by providing a volunteer driver through our signature program – Volunteer Medical Transportation Program (VMTP). RSVP volunteers will pick up the senior, take them to their appointment, stay with them for the duration, and ensure they get home safely afterward.

To make an appointment for a vaccine ride with RSVP, please call or email our RSVP Coordinator, they will call you back and get the needed ride information. A driver will then contact you to confirm the time of pick-up, etc. It’s that simple – we’re here to help!

RSVP Coordinator Yahaira Santiago: 860-539-6233 or [email protected]

Adults need to keep their vaccinations up to date because immunity from childhood vaccines can wear off over time. You are also at risk for different diseases as an adult. Vaccination is one of the most convenient and safest preventive care measures available. You may need other vaccines based on your age, health conditions, job, lifestyle, or travel habits. Learn more about what other vaccines may be recommended for you and talk to your healthcare professional about which vaccines are right for you.” (www.cdc.gov/vaccines/adults)

Fox 61 aired coverage of CRT’s toy drive on Tuesday, November 29th, Giving Tuesday, with the Hartford Fire Department and CRT’s efforts to ensure each child has a toy or present during the holiday season.
CRT’s Director of Community Services, Elizabeth Horton Sheff, shared the needs among families receiving services from CRT because they are having trouble making ends meet this year.

CRT is so grateful for the generosity of the owners at BouNom Bakery in Avon, Conn., who are donating 100 hand-made pumpkin pies on #Thanksgiving Day to homeless residents livings at CRT’s shelters in Hartford and East Hartford (including the East Hartford Family Shelter and Veterans Crossing).

All of the personal-sized pies will be baked and delivered on Thanksgiving Day. Watch this report by Leslie Mayes on NBC Connecticut to learn more about this wonderful act of kindness that is truly “Sweet as Pie!”

More details in this full report from NBC Connecticut.

Note: During the Coronavirus pandemic, CRT’s McKinney Shelter for Men in Hartford is officially closed, and the residents have been safely relocated to an area hotel.
