Understanding Your Money / Financial Literacy

Interested in learning how to better manage your money?

CRT offers workshops and credit counseling to help people manage money, improve credit and build savings. Youth and adults are invited to sign up for workshops to better understand money management.

CRT workshops will help you understand and improve your budgeting and money management skills. A personal plan of action will be developed to help achieve your goals.

Financial Literacy Institute: This 14-week intensive course provides an in-depth and engaging way to educate yourself and your family about tough topics in your financial world. During our Financial Literacy Institute, participants explore many aspects of financial fitness, including budgeting and savings; establishing and/or rebuilding credit; investment planning, dealing with the financial stress of underemployment and unemployment, protecting yourself and your assets through insurance, and so much more.  
We are accepting applications for the Fall 2019 Financial Literacy Institute until July 31, 2019!
Classes begin on September 10, 2019 and will be held every Tuesday, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at 330 Market Street (Basement floor), Hartford, CT. 
The Institute graduation ceremony will take place on December 10, 2019. Friends and family are welcome to attend!
To get started, please complete this application form and follow the instructions provided. Return the completed form before July 31, 2019.
First–time Homebuyer Education – 8 hours course. The HUD-certified course will walk participants through topics including: the advantages and costs of homeownership, steps throughout the home-buying process, credit scores and reports, money management before and after buying a home, protecting your investment, and more. Financial Fitness Class – 3 hours course, once per month. Topics covered in the class include: financial goal setting, savings and spending, maximizing income, understanding credit, managing debt, and protecting yourself financially. Individual Financial Fitness classes are offered on an individual basis. Adults and youth from Hartford and Middlesex counties are invited to sign-up. Most sessions are held in Hartford.
