Lena Rodríguez has committed her professional life to assisting people who are trying to forge better lives for themselves. She spent a decade at the New York City Board of Education, most recently as Director of Finance for the Division of Special Education, serving a population of more than 20,000 students and managing a $450 million annual budget. Seeking an organization with an even broader impact on families, Ms. Rodríguez moved to the Community Renewal Team in Connecticut. At CRT she works closely with funders and builds region-wide relationships in order to increase the resources and services available to residents of Central Connecticut.

With a passion for the CRT mission of Preparing Our Community To Meet Life’s Challenges, Ms. Rodríguez fearlessly leads CRT to address unmet needs in the community. Consistently focused on maximizing service to Central Connecticut residents, she spearheaded several large, innovative projects including Generations, a housing development for grandparents raising their grandchildren; Veterans Crossing, a transitional residence for homeless vets and The Retreat, a pilot affordable assisted living for low-income seniors. In addition, she worked tirelessly to preserve vital mental health and addiction services in Hartford, creating a licensed and accredited Behavioral Health Service accessible to patients at all income levels.

Since becoming CEO in 2005, Ms. Rodríguez has strategically harnessed resources at all levels to meet the changing needs of state residents, and deliver on the promise of community action: To help individuals address the challenges they face. She has shepherded the growth of the agency budget from $50 million to almost $100 million.

As a result of Ms. Rodríguez’s strong commitment to quality, CRT has received numerous awards for excellence from various local, state and national entities. She sets high standards, and has successfully led the organization through accreditation by third-party national organizations including the Joint Commission, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and Northeast Institute for Quality Community Action.

Rodriguez, who holds an MBA from Rensselaer Institute - Hartford and an undergraduate degree in finance from Bernard Baruch College, serves on the boards of Hartford Hospital, Capital Community College and the Greater Hartford YMCA.
