Meals on Wheels

Services

Meals on Wheels help support the independence and well-being of homebound seniors by providing as many as 14 meals per week. Hot, nutritious lunches are delivered at mid-day, along with cold suppers (if desired). Weekend meals are delivered chilled on Fridays. Therapeutic diets and modifications are available, if ordered by a doctor or qualified health professional. Delivery personnel ensure that the client is at home, and is feeling well enough to answer the door.

Eligibility Requirements

- Applicants must be 60 years of age or older, or the spouse of an elderly participant.
- Applicants must be homebound and unable to eat at a congregate meal site.
- Applicants are assessed as being “homebound” by a member of the Elderly Nutrition Program.
- A doctor or other qualified health profes- sional must provide a diet order, along with other pertinent medical history.
- Live in areas where we provide service.
- A suggested donation of $2.00 per meal is requested to help cover the cost of the meals, however no one is denied a meal if unable to pay.

Application Process

Referrals are accepted from physicians, hospitals, VNA’s, town social service departments, relatives, and other concerned persons or agencies. They or any individual who believe they qualify for home delivered meals should call:

Clients outside of Hartford can call CRT’s Home Care Manager or their town Coordinator.
