Beyond the basics...

Norma and her four children came to the East Hartford Community Shelter after she was burnt out of one apartment, robbed of her rent money in a second, and driven from a third location by the piles of discarded syringes.
She came to the shelter looking for a roof over her head and hot meals for her children. But CRT staff helped her address long-
neglected medical and dental issues; retire old debts; register her children for school; and find a vocational program.
Most important, they put her in line for another CRT program Permanent Supportive Housing, which provides an apartment and services for up to five years.
And so today, Norma’s tears are joyful. She’ll be seeing a counselor at CRT’s Behavioral Health Services; she’s scheduled a visit to the CRT Employment and Training/One Stop.

Each of our region’s vulnerable citizens deserves the opportunities afforded to Norma, the chance to go from crisis to stability to a hopeful future. We all
deserve to move “beyond the basics".
